Friends, fun, and a wedding

We've had another good week of the mundane balanced nicely with partying with friends. (By partying I mean kids running around with each other while adults talk, eat, and try to control the chaos.) Tuesday was an especially exciting day of house cleaning and tackling Mt. Laundry. When every third step on the wood floor grabs the bottom of your foot with stickiness, it's time to mop whether you want to or not. The laundry was conquered as well, though as of today the pile is sizable again. The stuff's like kudzu, forever growing, impossible to get rid of. The kids spent the day playing. Our fun sprinkler with all the little tentacles that make water spray everywhere is useless since I ran over the end of the hose with the golf cart, so they've been enjoying playing in the hose without the sprinkler. Avery wanted to put on his arm floaties and ring but I talked him out of it.

"How'd you get so dirty, Amelia?" "We've been working hard, in the mud." Beats me why.

Wednesday morning was supposed to be gymnastics but it was cancelled due to their teacher having a migraine. I can't imagine why she didn't think chasing two young'uns around would help it. Amelia was dissapointed mostly because she wanted to give her teacher the book she had made. (Her name is Miss Shannon...which Shannon thought was pretty funny the first time he met her.) She wanted to make a book one day and I figured it would work well for homeschool as she could get in creative writing, handwriting practice, and art all in one project. So "The Lost Dog" (surprisingly including a princess) was born. It turned out cute and she kept telling me it was for Miss Shannon, even though I suggested several times that she might want to keep it since it was her first one. (I really do want to keep it. I'm having a little trouble parting with much of anything she has created, since this is officially her kindergarten year, home or not. I'm guessing I'll get better at tossing stuff as the collection gets out of hand!) So I suppose next Wednesday Miss Shannon will get her much anticipated copy of "The Lost Dog."

Anyway, the rest of the day was spent doing the usual stuff at home, then we went to church that night. James worked on the Jeep again and I even helped bleed the brake system. This consists of pressing the brake pedal, holding it, pressing it again, holding it...perhaps there is more to it than that since he kept doing something underneath it while I was holding the pedal. That's about all I know, though. Incidentally, the Jeep is looking pretty good for a beater upper he got for a few hundred bucks. One day I'll post pictures of his baby so you can see what he's been up to.

Thursday was day o' partying. We had playgroup that morning at Jenny's house, so the kids had fun with their friends and the mommies and I enjoyed some good coffee. (Jenny has helped Starbucks become the mega company that it is by staying stocked up with their coffee and caramel syrup. Yum!)

Lynsey, Elizabeth, and Amelia

Zoe, who just got twin sisters the week before. (No, though her mommy is superwoman, she did not join us this day.) :)

Lydia D. and Tozer Hicks, who is a month younger than Elizabeth.

I participated in an office staff meeting by phone when I got home. James and I have always said camp is a 10 month rehearsal for a 2 month production. There are many decisions to be made concerning recruiting of campers and staff, day to day stuff with the business, and future growth. Right now besides working on increasing camper enrollment for the summer, we're trying to figure out how to get more retreat business for the off season. Anybody got a retreat that needs hosting?

Thursday night was our usual dinner group, this week at the Jennings' house. I've posted a few pictures of the gang below, but didn't get close to including everyone. The Jennings have an awesome yard for playing with a trampoline, toys, and a Barbie Jeep which the kids promptly rode until the battery was gasping for breath. Shannon keeps asking for one but we're too cheap to pay $200+ for one...anybody got a cheaper one they want to get rid of? And perhaps not Barbie... (James has looked on Craiglist and such a few times. On a Jeep forum he checks out he found where dads had done a "pimp my ride" maneuver on their kids' Powerwheels toys like adding a Dewalt battery with increased amps for speed, tires with real rubber for grip, raised/lowered, etc. Silly daddies!) Anyway, we enjoyed dinner and hanging out- "fellowship," I believe, is the church word for it.

Shannon and A.J. Hicks.

Shannon and Tanner Knott, secure in their masculinity in a pink and turquoise Jeep. Shannon is still driving and had to be reminded that other kids like to drive too.

Peekaboo!

A rare photo of Alison and Carlton Hicks WITHOUT their children, Elliott, A.J., and Tozer. Alison and I have been the source of confusion for more than one person at church- for some reason they get us confused with each other (if they don't know us well), or at least assume we're sisters. I always wanted a sister...

More Jeepin' fun. Elliott and Bennett.

The Jennings girls, Meggie Beth (slurping a noodle) and Alex Anne

Ruth D. came home with us from the Jennings to spend the night with Amelia. The two of them are within 8 weeks of each other in age but because Ruth has a September birthday she will be a year behind Amelia in school. This works out great for Amelia this year because her buddy is still at playgroups and can come over for sleepovers on a school night. Friday morning and early afternoon were spent playing on the playset and in the hose (again), and we also made some playdough. I've got a great playdough recipe if anyone needs one! Ruth went home early afternoon, and after the boys' naps we went to Target in Gainesville. I had three Target gift cards burning a hole in my pocket...and used them on diapers! Yeah!

The girls, Elizabeth, Ruth, and Amelia. Queens of dress up. (It's only a matter of time for Elizabeth)

Playdough fun. Notice Shannon in the background. His playdough was a phone.

Today my folks came up to Cleveland and stayed with the kids so we could go to Jake and Katherine's wedding, two staffers who worked here this summer. Katherine was also our intern from January to May. It was a beautiful and Godly wedding. The two of them are both talented and wonderful people who love God, so there's no doubt they'll have incredible life of service together. Several Strong Rock staffers from the summer were there also, so it was fun to catch up with them. We really did have an amazing staff this summer. I'd post pictures, but the camera never made it out of the truck. My folks took the kids to Unicoi park, where they had an impromptu swim in their clothes at the beach area. Silly grandparents! They had a blast. Kids AND grandparents!

Tonight James is enjoying a pay-per-view (paper view, I always think) fight at the home of a friend, Chris Baumgardner, with several other manly men. They are watching guys pummel other guys. I am a girl, and do not get it. But I won't judge those who enjoy it, I'm just really glad it's not at our house!!

Goodnight.

PS- An extra couple of cute pictures, for your viewing pleasure.

Three months old

Avery looks more like a little boy and less like a baby everyday.

Like I said before, goodnight.
